Policy Committee Meeting

The Fox and Hounds, Syston, 7:30 pm,  31 October 2005

Eight members of the committee were in attendance.  The main business of the meeting was to receive short reports from officers and committee chairs of the Association at the start of the new chess season.

The Association had received notification of the British Museum exhibition entitled ‘Across the Board – Around the World in 18 Games’ to be held in Leicester from 28th January to 30th April 2006.  Chess features quite importantly in this exhibition of board games and the key exhibits include the Isle of Lewis Chessmen from the British Museum.  The New Walk Museum & Art Gallery enquired whether the Association would be interested in arranging a chess tournament during the time the exhibition is in Leicester.  Following a meeting of two of the Association’s officers with the managing curator of the Museum, it was proposed to hold the Leicestershire Junior Championships at the New Walk Museum on Saturday 1st April 2006 and the committee agreed, also confirming Cyril Johnson as organiser.

Next meeting - a Monday in February to be confirmed.

Policy Committee Meeting

The Fox and Hounds, Syston, 7:30 pm,  22 August 2005

Seven members of the committee were in attendance.

The main business of the meeting was to receive recommendations on team captains from the county teams committee.  In relation to this item, Peter Cresswell informed that he had to resign all his posts in the Association, to take effect at the start of the meeting, due to family commitments.  Also, matters relating to the communication emailed to club contacts/secretaries on 26 July 05 by the president on behalf of the policy committee were reviewed.

Actions taken under any other business:  agreement to replace the missing challengers trophy which will be an award for the individual championships organised by Sean Hewitt;  recommendations on membership of congress committee;  agreement to submit summaries of future meetings to the webmaster for posting on the lrca website.

Next meeting - a Monday in November to be confirmed.
