Braunstone Quickplay – 7 September

A five-round Swiss tournament of 15-minute games, open to all Leicestershire players with an entry fee of £2.

Prizes dependent upon entries.  Quickplay will be limited to first 30 players to apply, when there would prizes of £20 for the winner and £10 for the handicapped winner.  No player may win both prizes, and prizes may be reduced if fewer entries are received.

Location: Ravenhurst Room, Braunstone Civic Centre.  Start time: 7:20pm.

Games are for fun only and will not be graded.  Grades used will be the August 2010 ECF Quickplay grades or Standard Play grades if player has no quickplay grade (or only an E Grade).

Charity Quickplay – 23 September

The Annual LRCA Prizegiving and Charity Quickplay will take place at Spinney Hill WMC on Thursday 23rd September at 7:30pm.  All the league trophies will be presented, along with the County Championship Trophies and the Chapman, Birstall, Harrod and Wylie Cups (if completed).  Then there will folllow, as in previous years, the charity rapid play, in teams of 4, which can be entered on the night.  There will be an entry fee of £2 per person which goes to charity, which this year is the East Midlands Air Ambulance service.

All clubs holding shields and cups are requested to return them to the League Secretary Mike Salisbury in good time and good condition for the presentations.

Leicester Chess Congress (H E Atkins Memorial) – 1–3 October

Venue: Regent College, Regent Road, Leicester LE1 7LW.

A 5-round weekender in three sections, including a FIDE rated open which has a qualifying place for the 2011 British Championships in Sheffield.

Julie Johnson Wins ECF Award

Julie Johnson has received the ECF President's Award for services to chess.  Congratulations, Julie!

Who We Are

Leicestershire & Rutland Chess Association is the body recognised by the English Chess Federation as being responsible for chess in the city of Leicester and the counties of Leicestershire and Rutland.  The Association is affiliated to the Midland Counties Chess Union.

What We Do

Control, organise and co-ordinate all County chess affairs and support independent events.

Act as the organisation recognised by the English Chess Federation, and the Midland Counties Chess Union as the governing body of chess in Leicestershire & Rutland, and to affiliate to those bodies.

Encourage the establishment of chess clubs in Leicestershire & Rutland and to foster chess playing generally.

Run county teams at all levels (including junior u/12, u/14, u/16 and u/18)
