What about club fees?
  • Each club should decide what discount (if any) they will give to members who join the scheme
  • Clubs will save on league fees for each member - 45p per game ie £6.30 per player per team
  • If a player plays for 2 teams, the saving is doubled!
  • LRCA encourages all clubs to pass the full saving on to their members

What should our club do?
Case Study
  • A club have 3 teams in the league.  They also have 2 in the Chapman Cup and 1 in the Harrod Cup.  Their players play some county and congress chess, and they have a club championship.
  • The club has 15 active members and 3 occasional players.
  • The 15 active players played between 8 and 36 games, with the average being 19.
  • League fees for 2006/7 would total £157, Summer Cups would cost £19 and the Club Championship £6 – total £182.

What should our club do?
  • There is no right answer
  • What is for one club will not be right for another.
  • Each club and player must make their own decision based on their own circumstances.
  • Many clubs will find that if all their active players join the scheme it will cost around £2 extra per player.
  • This extra cost is likely to be saved in benefits received.
  • Players may want to pay the extra themselves to receive the benefits of membership.
  • It is almost certain that every club will have some players who would benefit financially by joining the scheme.

What Next?
  • The LRCA are asking you to vote to separate the cost of entering the league from the cost of grading games.
  • This will allow us to offer the maximum benefits to those who want to join the scheme.
  • If you or your club do not intend to join the scheme we still urge you to vote for this separation.
  • Such clubs remain unaffected as they simply continue to pay game fee.
